Read moreThe best time depends on the park and the wildlife you want to see. Most tiger safari destinations in Central and North India operate mainly from October to June. October to February offers cooler weather, while mid March to June can provide better tiger visibility in Central India as vegetation becomes thinner and animals visit water sources more frequently. Kaziranga National Park has a shorter safari season and is generally open from November to April. Safari seasons vary by park, so always check the operating dates of the specific national park before planning your trip.
The best wildlife safari depends on the animals and landscapes you want to experience. Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Pench, Panna, Ranthambore and Tadoba are popular for tiger safaris. Kaziranga is known for one horned rhinoceroses, Gir for Asiatic lions, and Periyar for elephants and forest scenery. First time visitors often choose two or three national parks to experience different habitats and improve their chances of varied wildlife sightings.
Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Pench, Panna, Ranthambore and Tadoba regularly offer rewarding tiger safari experiences. However, tiger movement changes with the season, water availability, territory and recent wildlife activity. No national park or safari zone can guarantee a tiger sighting. Selecting the right park for your travel month and taking several safaris usually provides a better opportunity than relying on one safari.
We generally recommend at least three or four jeep safaris in each national park. This provides time to explore different habitats and observe more than tigers, including leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, deer, gaur and birds. Wildlife sightings are unpredictable, so a single safari may not represent the complete park experience. Serious wildlife photographers and tiger enthusiasts may prefer four to six safaris at each reserve.
We recommend booking at least 4 to 6 months in advance, especially if you plan to travel between October and April. Safari permits, preferred safari zones, domestic flights, and popular wildlife resorts are limited and often sell out early. Booking in advance gives you the best chance of securing your preferred travel dates and accommodations.
To book your safari, we require a clear passport photo of travelers, as mandated by the forest department. Carry the same original identification during the safari because forest officials may verify it at the entrance gate.
Yes, wildlife safaris are generally suitable for families and first time visitors when park regulations and guide instructions are followed. Safaris operate in approved vehicles with registered drivers and local nature guides. Travelers must remain inside the vehicle unless permission is given at a designated location. Parents should also check individual park rules for young children and prepare them to remain quiet when animals are nearby.
Wear comfortable clothes in neutral shades such as brown, green, grey or beige. Carry a light jacket for cool morning safaris between November and February, and breathable clothing, a hat and sun protection during warmer months. Binoculars, a camera, drinking water and a dust mask can be useful.
Avoid bright clothing, strong fragrances and unnecessary noise because they can disturb wildlife and reduce the quality of the experience.
