+91-9873003099 Alternate line: +91-9717930209Kerala is a narrow strip of land along the southwestern coast of India, tucked between the Western Ghats to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west. It is one of the most beautiful and serene travel destinations in Asia and has earned a worldwide reputation for its unique backwaters, lush greenery, Ayurvedic wellness traditions, and gracious hospitality. People come to Kerala from all over the world to slow down, relax, and reconnect with nature.
The state is famous for its backwater network, a system of lakes, canals, and rivers that runs parallel to the coast. Staying on a traditional wooden houseboat called a kettuvallam and drifting slowly through the backwaters of Alleppey (Alappuzha) is one of the most iconic travel experiences in all of India. The hill stations of Munnar and Wayanad are blanketed with tea and spice plantations and offer cool, misty retreats in the Western Ghats. The beaches of Kovalam, Varkala, and Marari are among the best in India. Wildlife sanctuaries like Periyar are home to elephants, tigers, and rare birds in a stunning lake setting.
Kerala is also the birthplace of Ayurveda as a formalized wellness practice, and the state has hundreds of authentic Ayurvedic resorts and clinics offering traditional treatments and rejuvenation therapies. The classical dance form of Kathakali and the martial art of Kalaripayattu are also deeply rooted in Kerala's cultural heritage.
This Kerala travel guide covers everything you need to know to plan a memorable trip, from the best time to visit and top places to explore, to Ayurveda packages, houseboat bookings, and wildlife tours.
Winter (October to February)
Winter is the best time to visit Kerala. The weather is dry, cool, and pleasant across the state, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 32 degrees Celsius. The backwaters are calm and beautiful, the beaches are safe for swimming, and the hill stations are refreshingly cool. This is the peak tourist season and the best time for houseboat cruises in Alleppey, beach holidays in Kovalam and Varkala, and wildlife safaris in Periyar. The famous Thrissur Pooram festival and other temple festivals also take place during the winter and early spring months.
Summer (March to May)
Summers in Kerala are warm and humid along the coast, but the hill stations of Munnar and Wayanad remain cool and pleasant. This is a good time for Ayurvedic treatments as the pre-monsoon heat is considered ideal for certain therapies according to traditional Ayurvedic practice. Some of Kerala's most spectacular temple festivals take place in April and May.
Monsoon (June to September)
Kerala receives one of the heaviest monsoons in India, starting in June. While travel becomes more challenging, the state transforms into a breathtakingly green landscape. The monsoon season is considered the best time for deep Ayurvedic rejuvenation programs, as the cool, moist air is believed to open the pores and make the body more receptive to treatment. The famous Vallam Kali (snake boat races) are held during August and September and are a spectacular sight. If you enjoy the rain and are looking for a more authentic, less crowded experience, the monsoon can be a wonderful time to visit Kerala.
