Punjab Travel Guide

Punjab is a state in the northwestern part of India, bordering Pakistan to the west. Its name means the Land of Five Rivers, referring to the five rivers that flow through this fertile land and have shaped its history, culture, and people for thousands of years. Punjab is known across the world for its warm and generous people, its bold and flavorful food, its vibrant festivals, and above all, the deep spiritual significance of Amritsar, home to the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine in Sikhism.

The Golden Temple, formally known as Harmandir Sahib, is one of the most visited places of worship in the world. Its breathtaking architecture of white marble and gold, reflected in the sacred pool of Amrit Sarovar, creates a scene of extraordinary beauty and peace. The Wagah Border ceremony, held every evening at the India-Pakistan border near Amritsar, is a unique and highly energetic patriotic spectacle that draws thousands of visitors daily. Punjab is also known for its role in India's independence history, particularly the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, which is commemorated at a memorial in Amritsar.

Beyond Amritsar, Punjab has much to offer including the historic city of Anandpur Sahib, the heritage town of Patiala, and the rural landscape of villages and mustard fields that inspired countless Bollywood films. This Punjab travel guide covers the best time to visit, top places to explore, and everything you need for a meaningful and memorable trip to this spirited state.
