It has one of the longest coastlines of any state in India, stretching along the Bay of Bengal for over 970 kilometers, dotted with beaches, fishing villages, and coastal temples. The state is deeply rooted in Telugu culture, one of the oldest classical cultures in India, and this heritage is visible in its temples, classical dance forms, music, cuisine, and way of life.
Andhra Pradesh is home to some of the most significant religious sites in India. The Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world, receiving over 50,000 devotees on an average day. The Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada, the Buddhist heritage sites of Amaravati and Nagarjunakonda, and the ancient temples of Srisailam make Andhra Pradesh one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in India. The state capital region of Amaravati is a developing city, while Visakhapatnam (Vizag) on the coast is a major port city and tourist destination known for its beaches, submarines, and hill parks.
This Andhra Pradesh travel guide covers the best time to visit, top places to explore, pilgrimage sites, coastal destinations, and travel packages to help you plan a great trip to this vibrant state.
Winter (October to February)
Winter is the best time to visit Andhra Pradesh. The weather is dry and comfortable, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 28 degrees Celsius. This is the ideal season for visiting pilgrimage sites like Tirupati, Srisailam, and Amaravati, as well as coastal destinations like Visakhapatnam and Araku Valley. The hill station of Horsley Hills is also pleasant during winter months.
Summer (March to June)
Summers in Andhra Pradesh can be hot and humid, especially along the coast and in the interior plains. Temperatures can reach up to 42 degrees Celsius in some areas. The hill station of Araku Valley near Visakhapatnam remains cool during summer and is a popular escape for residents of the state.
Monsoon (July to September)
Andhra Pradesh receives the northeast monsoon from October to December, which is the primary rainy season for the state. The southwest monsoon between July and September also brings moderate rainfall. The coastline can experience cyclonic activity during this period and travelers should monitor weather alerts. The landscape becomes green and the rivers and waterfalls are at their fullest.
