Best time to Visit Northeast India

Autumn and Winter (October to March)

This is the best time to visit most parts of Northeast India. The monsoon has cleared and the skies are clean and bright. This is the ideal season for wildlife safaris in Kaziranga, cultural festivals like the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland (December) and the Ziro Music Festival in Arunachal Pradesh (September-October), and trekking in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. The famous monastery of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh is at its most accessible and beautiful during winter months.

Spring (March to May)

Spring is a wonderful time to visit the Northeast, especially for nature lovers. Rhododendrons bloom across the hills of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, turning the landscapes red and pink. This is also a good time for birdwatching, as many migratory birds pass through or stay in the region during spring.

Monsoon (June to September)

The monsoon brings very heavy rainfall to the Northeast, especially Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. Travel becomes difficult in many areas due to flooding, landslides, and washed-out roads. However, the Brahmaputra River cruises in Assam and some cultural festivals still operate during this period. Experienced travelers who do not mind the rain can find a very raw and authentic version of the Northeast during the monsoon.
