Situated 8 km from central Gangtok, Tashi Viewpoint is a scenic beauty from where travelers can enjoy the spectacular view of Mount Sinilochu and Mount Kangchenjunga. It was built between 1914 and 1963 by King Tashi Namgyal of Sikkim and that is how the place got its name. Developed by the tourism department of Sikkim and situated at an ideal location, Tashi Viewpoint offers a beautiful view of the snow-capped mountains. Situated amidst mountains at an altitude of 12400 feet above sea level, Tsomgo Lake is one of the few high altitude lakes located on the Gangtok-Nathu La highway in India. Tsomgo Lake is a glacial lake that receives water from the melting snow of the surrounding mountains. This glacial lake is famous for its color changing water. A dazzling aquamarine lake is visible during monsoons, while in winter it freezes into a translucent cover of ice. Apart from storing some of the world's unique religious texts, it also serves as a storehouse of many unique items. The huge prayer hall inside the astonishing monastery is a sight to behold which is decorated with splendid murals, sculptures and thangkhas.
