+91-9873003099 Alternate line: +91-9717930209Delhi is the capital of India and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. It is a city that has been the seat of power for more than a dozen empires and dynasties over the course of 5,000 years, and the evidence of this history is visible at every turn. From the grand Red Fort and Jama Masjid of the Mughal era to the colonial boulevards of Lutyens Delhi and the gleaming towers of the modern business district, Delhi is a living museum where every era of Indian history is present side by side.
Delhi is divided into two broad zones that feel almost like different cities. Old Delhi, built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century, is a dense and chaotic maze of narrow lanes, spice markets, street food stalls, and ancient mosques and havelis. The famous Chandni Chowk market and the Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, are at the heart of Old Delhi. New Delhi, designed by British architects Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker in the early 20th century, is a spacious and planned city of wide avenues, grand government buildings, and important monuments like India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and the Qutub Minar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Humayun's Tomb, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is considered the architectural predecessor of the Taj Mahal and is one of the most beautiful Mughal buildings in India.
This Delhi travel guide will help you navigate and explore this vast and fascinating city, covering the best time to visit, top attractions, food trails, day trip options, and travel tips for a comfortable and rewarding stay in the capital.
Winter (October to March)
Winter is the best time to visit Delhi. The weather is cool and dry, making it very comfortable for exploring the city's many outdoor monuments, markets, and streets. Temperatures range from around 5 degrees Celsius on cold January nights to about 20 degrees Celsius on sunny winter days. This is peak tourist season and the city is at its most vibrant. December and January can occasionally bring dense fog that affects visibility and flight schedules, so it is worth keeping this in mind when planning your trip.
Spring (February to March)
February and March are particularly pleasant in Delhi. The city celebrates Holi in March, which is one of the most joyful and colorful festivals you can experience anywhere in India. The weather is warming up but not yet uncomfortable.
Summer (April to June)
Summers in Delhi are very hot, with temperatures regularly exceeding 40 to 45 degrees Celsius. Hot dry winds called loo blow across the city in May and June. While the city continues to function normally, sightseeing can be exhausting in the heat and the early morning and evening hours are the best times to visit outdoor attractions.
Monsoon (July to September)
The monsoon brings relief from the summer heat and Delhi receives moderate rainfall between July and September. The city turns greener and the air feels fresher. Travel during the monsoon is generally comfortable, though some low-lying areas may experience waterlogging during heavy downpours.
