We had a memorable time in Delhi and Agra, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of seeing the city and the countryside as we traveled between the two cities. The sites were amazing, as expected, and our guides were able and helpful in explaining what we were seeing and answering our many questions. They did a great job of ensuring we were able to get great photos as well along the way.

Alkof Holidays was a very good choice for arranging an individual journey throughout Darjeeling, Sikkim and Bhutan in November 2025. The planning via e-mail was easy and turned out to be perfect. The whole tour was professionally organized and included all important points of interest as well as our individual preferences. The guides and drivers in Darjeeling/Sikkim as well as in Bhutan were very nice, helpful and competent. Mr. Sanjeev Kumar himself was at all times very polite, kind and accommodating. Thank you! I can highly recommend Alkof Holidays!

First, I want to highlight that ALKOF HOLIDAYS truly deserves more than 5 stars!

First, I want to highlight that ALKOF HOLIDAYS truly deserves more than 5 stars!... First, I want to highlight that ALKOF HOLIDAYS truly deserves more than 5 stars! When my friend Elisabeth and I decided to take this trip, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar contacted us — and that turned out to be the best choice we could have made! He suggested different hotels, recommended excursions, and always ensured we had options that met our expectations and complete satisfaction. He customized the tour according to our wishes in the best possible way. He arranged highly competent, pleasant, friendly, and helpful guides and drivers with excellent cars. They always accepted all our ‘extra wishes,’ such as photo stops or changes in the planned schedule, and were always exactly on time. Mr. Gurvinder Singh gave us a wonderfully informative tour in Kolkata. During our days in Darjeeling, we had Mr. Amid Gurung, who was extremely caring, helpful, and always adjusted the excursions—especially those involving many steps or steep climbs—to my age (79). He supported me with great caution by holding my arm or hand whenever needed. Our driver, Mr. Binai, was the best driver you could imagine, especially considering the road conditions—landslides, rocks, roadwork, heavy traffic—but he handled everything perfectly and calmly! In Bhutan, our guide Mr. Sungay was such a pleasant companion and shared a lot about the country, its people, religion, and lifestyle. Our driver Ellis was also very kind, but Elisabeth somehow did not feel comfortable with his driving (although I did not agree!). So, we changed to Mr. Rimchen, another extremely kind, helpful, charming, pleasant, and excellent driver. We had a wonderful and very interesting trip with extraordinary views of mountains, monasteries, temples, tea estates, forests, rivers, flowers, and beautiful houses. We met unforgettable, kind people — and to top it all, we enjoyed blue skies and warm sunshine every single day! Mr. Sanjeev Kumar was always reachable whenever needed. Even when we returned to Delhi, he accompanied us to an extraordinary fabric factory that my friend wanted to visit. He arranged a car for the visit and organized a bigger vehicle for our return to the airport to accommodate all our luggage. Thanks to ALKOF HOLIDAYS, and especially to Mr. Sanjeev Kumar — who spent so much time and effort arranging our reservations, visas, and all the special extras — we look back on a wonderful trip we will never forget. We will continue to enjoy all the photos we took! We will certainly recommend ALKOF HOLIDAYS to all our friends and family who are interested in tours to Southeast Asia. Once again, my sincere thanks and best regards to Alkof Holidays! Sylvia Veronika Lukas

Tiger Safari Travel FAQs

Ranthambore in Rajasthan is famous for its tigers that are comfortable around vehicles, making sightings more likely. Jim Corbett in Uttarakhand is India's oldest tiger reserve with good tiger numbers. Bandhavgarh in Madhya Pradesh has one of the highest tiger densities in India. Kanha, also in Madhya Pradesh, inspired The Jungle Book and offers excellent tiger viewing. Tadoba in Maharashtra is less crowded but has very active tigers. Each park has different landscapes - Ranthambore has ruins and lakes, Corbett has rivers and grasslands, Bandhavgarh has dense forests, and Kanha has meadows. Your choice depends on when you travel and what type of landscape you prefer alongside tiger watching.
October to April is tiger safari season across most of India. The parks close during monsoon months from June to September. March to May offers the best tiger sightings because water sources dry up, forcing tigers to visit remaining waterholes where you can spot them. However, temperatures reach 40°C or higher during these months. October to February is more comfortable weather-wise, with temperatures between 10°C to 25°C, but tigers are harder to spot as they have more water sources available. November to February is peak tourist season, so expect higher prices and advance bookings. If you want the best balance of comfort and sightings, plan for late February or early March. Each park has slightly different seasons, so check specific opening dates when planning your trip.
Plan at least 3 days at one park for a reasonable chance of seeing tigers. Two safari sessions per day are allowed - morning and afternoon. With 6 total safaris over 3 days, your odds improve significantly. A typical tiger safari tour covers 7 to 10 days, visiting 2 to 3 different parks. This gives you variety in landscapes and wildlife beyond tigers. Remember that tiger sightings are never guaranteed - they are wild animals in large territories. The experience of being in their natural habitat is rewarding even without sightings, as you'll see leopards, sloth bears, deer, birds, and other wildlife.
Bring neutral colored clothing in khaki, brown, or olive green. Avoid bright colors that might disturb wildlife. Pack layers because mornings can be cold while afternoons get hot. A warm jacket is essential from November to February. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Binoculars are crucial for spotting distant tigers and other wildlife. A camera with a good zoom lens helps capture tigers from far away. Most parks provide blankets in safari vehicles, but bring your own if you get cold easily. Pack insect repellent and any personal medications. Bring a water bottle and snacks for longer safaris. Flash photography is strictly prohibited as it disturbs animals. Some parks rent binoculars, but bringing your own ensures you have them when needed. Comfortable closed shoes are better than sandals for walking at forest rest stops.
Safari costs vary greatly by park and season. Government park entry fees range from 500 to 2000 rupees per person per safari. Vehicle costs add another 1500 to 3000 rupees depending on whether you choose a jeep or larger canter. Guide fees are typically 200 to 500 rupees per safari. Premium parks like Ranthambore cost more than lesser-known parks. Private jeeps cost more than shared ones but offer better flexibility. Accommodation near parks ranges from budget guesthouses at 2000 rupees per night to luxury resorts at 15000 rupees or more. A 3-day tiger safari including accommodation, meals, and safaris typically costs 25000 to 75000 rupees per person depending on your choices. Foreign visitors pay higher entry fees than Indian nationals. Book safaris in advance as popular time slots fill quickly, especially during peak season from November to March.
Yes, advance booking is mandatory for all tiger safaris in India. You cannot just show up at the park gate. Online booking systems open specific dates before your travel - typically 90 to 120 days ahead. Popular parks like Ranthambore and Bandhavgarh slots fill up within hours of opening. You need to book safari slots, not just accommodation. Each safari session has limited seats to minimize impact on wildlife. Morning safaris usually start between 6 AM and 7 AM, afternoon sessions around 2 PM to 3 PM. You'll need to provide passport details for foreign nationals or ID proof for Indian citizens when booking. Some parks allow a small number of spot bookings if slots are available, but do not rely on this during peak season. Book through official park websites or authorized tour operators to avoid fake bookings.
Indian tiger reserves host diverse wildlife beyond tigers. Leopards are present in most parks but are nocturnal and harder to spot. Sloth bears are common, especially in Ranthambore and Tadoba. You'll see various deer species including spotted deer, sambar deer, and barking deer. Wild boar roam freely in most parks. Bird life is exceptional with over 200 species in parks like Kanha and Corbett. Crocodiles live in rivers and lakes within several reserves. Monkeys including langurs and macaques are everywhere. Indian bison live in parks like Bandhavgarh and Kanha. Some parks have wolves, hyenas, and jackals. Water birds gather around lakes and rivers. Each park has unique species - Corbett has elephants, Gir has Asiatic lions, and Kaziranga has rhinos and water buffalo. Even without tiger sightings, the diversity of wildlife makes safaris worthwhile for nature lovers.
Tiger safaris in India are very safe when following park rules. Tigers generally avoid humans and safari vehicles. Trained guides accompany every safari and know animal behavior well. Safari vehicles are open-top jeeps or canters that allow quick movement if needed. Tigers rarely approach vehicles, and when they do, it's usually curiosity rather than aggression. The biggest safety risks are vehicle-related - rough forest roads and open vehicles. Always wear seatbelts when provided and hold on during bumpy rides. Follow your guide's instructions about staying seated and quiet. Never get out of the vehicle except at designated spots. Don't attempt to feed any animals. Morning safaris can be cold, so dress warmly to avoid getting sick. Most injuries on safaris are minor - sunburn, insect bites, or motion sickness. Millions of people go on tiger safaris annually with very few incidents. The parks have emergency protocols and radio communication between vehicles and ranger stations.
Yes, children can go on tiger safaris, but age limits vary by park. Most parks allow children above 5 years old. Some parks like Ranthambore allow younger children if they can sit quietly. Children below 12 often get discounted entry fees. However, consider whether your child can stay quiet and still for 3 to 4 hours during safari drives. Sudden movements or loud noises can disturb wildlife and reduce sighting chances. Morning safaris start very early, which might be challenging for young children. The bumpy forest roads and open vehicles can be uncomfortable. Bring snacks, water, and entertainment for children during slower periods. Some luxury safari lodges offer family-friendly accommodations and shorter safari options. Private jeeps work better than shared vehicles when traveling with children as you have more control over the experience. Most children find the wildlife exciting, but prepare them for the possibility of not seeing tigers on every safari.
Jeep safaris use 6-seater open-top vehicles that are faster and more maneuverable on forest roads. Canters are larger 20-seater vehicles that move slower but cost less per person. Jeeps can access narrower forest tracks where tigers might be resting, while canters stick to main roads. Jeep safaris offer better photography angles and closer wildlife encounters. You have more control over timing and route in a jeep - guides can spend longer at tiger sightings. Canters follow fixed routes and schedules. Jeep safaris cost more but provide a more personalized experience. Private jeeps let you choose your group, while canters might have strangers who talk loudly or behave poorly around wildlife. However, canters are more stable on rough roads and provide better protection from dust and sun. For serious wildlife photographers or those wanting the best chance of tiger sightings, choose jeep safaris. For budget travelers or families with young children, canters work well.
