India does not have a single best season because the country spans multiple climate zones. October to March suits heritage and cultural circuits across the north and the desert regions. South India travels well through the same period and into April. Wildlife reserves follow their own seasonal calendars, with peak sighting windows varying by reserve. Citizens of Nepal and Bhutan do not need a Visa at enter India. However all other foreign nationals must obtain a Visa to enter India. Travelers entering through any International Airport in India can apply for e-Visa. If any travelers are entering India by road they must obtain a full paper Visa.

A focused itinerary covering one region well requires a minimum of 10 to 12 days. The Golden Triangle covering Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur takes 6 to 8 days. A Kerala backwater and wildlife circuit takes 8 to 10 days. A Rajasthan tour covering Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer requires 10 to 12 days. First-time visitors covering multiple regions should plan for at least 14 to 16 days to avoid a rushed itinerary.

India is a safe destination for solo travelers when planned correctly. Reputable accommodation, private transfers, and a local contact at each destination significantly reduce risk. Every Alkof Holidays itinerary includes a dedicated tour manager reachable by phone and WhatsApp throughout the trip, along with a private driver and local guide at each destination who remain with you on the ground.

India uses the Indian Rupee. ATMs are widely available in cities and major tourist towns but can be unreliable in remote areas like Ladakh or rural Rajasthan. Carrying a combination of cash and an internationally accepted debit or credit card is advisable. Inform your bank of travel dates before departure to avoid cards being blocked. USD and GBP can be exchanged at authorised money changers in all major cities.

Consult a travel health clinic or your doctor at least 6 to 8 weeks before travel. Commonly recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus. Malaria prophylaxis is advised for travel to certain regions including parts of Rajasthan, Odisha, and Northeast India. Yellow Fever vaccination is required only if arriving from a country with risk of Yellow Fever transmission. Requirements can change, so always verify current recommendations with a medical professional before travel.
