Chendebji Chorten

Chendebji Chorten is situated on a beautiful valley and is a stop on the way from Thimphu to Trongsa. It is believed that this is the place where the three ridges and three sides of the sky meet. It is an important site for religious practices and is similar to the Boudhanath Stupa in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. There is also a prayer wall next to it. Chorten attracts a lot of tourists during the Sambha Lundrup Molam Chenmo Festival. Boasting the lush green landscape of central Bhutan and fluttering colorful prayer flags, Chendabji Chorten welcomes tourists with its pristine location and serene atmosphere. It immediately wraps you in its peaceful atmosphere and makes you forget all your sorrows.

The palace served as the second king's winter home but is now the National Commission for Cultural Affairs. It has exquisite woodwork, crafts and paintings and also houses statues of Guru Rinpoche and Shakyamuni. There are also very nice pictures of the 35 Buddhas of Compassion and Guru Rinpoche's Swarg Jangdopelri. A part of it is also used as a library. A 20-minute walk from the palace is Karma Drubade Nunnery, where one can visit the hostel, dining hall and main temple. This simple two-storey palace located just above the highway in the city is the birth place of our late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. It was here that on 2 May 1928, Her Majesty was born to King Jigme Wangchuck and Ashi Punsho Choden.

The Warriors' Vanguard - Trongsa Dzongkhag is located near the center of Bhutan and was considered important in controlling the kingdom in earlier years due to its strategic location. The city is situated on a steep peak and offers spectacular views of the deep valleys surrounding it. Various hotels, guesthouses and restaurants all offer spectacular views from their balconies. Trongsa Dzong is easily visible from anywhere in the city and is always an impressive sight as it is perched atop a steep ridge that drops into the clouds on its south side. Point of Caution: Tourists are expected to dress respectfully and decently when visiting temples and other religious institutions. Shoulders should also be covered inside religious establishments.
