Kardang Monastery

Kardang Monastery is an ancient gompa located at a distance of around 5 km from Keylong in Himachal Pradesh. Nestled at an altitude of 3500 m above sea level, the gompa is located on the banks of the river Bhaga. It is a 900 year old monastery, which falls under Drukpa Kagyud School of Buddhism. Built in the 12th century, this monastery has an old library, which is known as the largest Buddhist library in the country. The library has Kangyur and Tangyur scriptures written in the Bhotia or Sherpa language. The monastery has a vast collection of Thanka paintings, musical instruments such as lutes, drums, horns and some old weapons.

Shashur Gompa

Shashur Gompa is a small Olde worlde Buddhist shrine of the Drugpa sect built in 16th Century. It is located 2km from the hill-town of Keylong, Sha-shur means "blue pines" in the local dialect, as patches of blue pine can be seen around the monastery, This gompa has some fine thangkas and one thangka is over fifteen feet. There are also well-preserved wall paintings depicting all the 84 siddhas of Buddhism. It is also known as the Tsheshu Festival.

Lahul Valley

Lahaul valley is just 33 km from Manali along the Manali-Leh highway. One of the 3 least populated districts in India, Lahaul is a high altitude in Himachal Pradesh. The place is famous for its various high altitude trek trails and a rich Tibetan influenced culture. Lahaul is much more developed and has a greater number of mountain villages. Gandhola Monastery

Gandhola Monastery, is situated at Tupchiling village at the confluence of the rivers Chandra and Bhaga, together known as Chandrabhaga or Chenab River. This monastery was founded by Guru Rinpoche or Padmasambhava around the 8th century. It is a famous tourist attraction of Keylong. This stunning monastery is famous for its wooden idols, which stand pout from the clay idols located in all other monasteries.
