The Burmese Monastery in Sankisa, founded in 2000, is one of several foreign viharas established by Buddhist communities outside India to re-establish and maintain the Buddhist presence at this ancient sacred site. The monastery provides facilities to host pilgrims, offering a peaceful space for meditation and spiritual reflection. In 2011, a Peace Bell weighing about five tonnes was installed within the monastic compound; commissioned in Germany, it serves as a symbolic structure promoting harmony and goodwill. A unique feature of the monastery is the presence of figures of the soles of both feet of the Buddha, a decorative and symbolic representation that is rare and spiritually significant. Together, these elements make the Burmese Monastery an important international landmark on the Buddhist pilgrimage circuit in Sankisa.
