"The Palace On Wheels", is the first luxury train introduced by the Indian Railways in association with the Government of Rajasthan. It's name was taken from the royal background of Rajputana land and first came into existence in 1982. Before Independence the passenger coaches were personally used by the highly famed rulers of the British India, and the Royal Families of India.

 

In 1990 the new Palace on Wheels with an air condition was launched and was equipped with 13 Saloons, 4 Service Cars, one Bar cum Lounge, and 2 Restaurant cum Kitchen car. In 1995, the train was further renovated with many more amenities. 14 Saloons, bar & dining cars, a library, doctor on call, and a well equipped lounge are a part of the services you obtain in this train.

Train Timing & Schedule:
"The Palace On Wheels - Luxury Train Journey" begins on every Wednesday at 06:30 PM (reporting time is 4.30 PM) from Safdarjung Railway Station in New Delhi, and the trip ends-up on the very next Wednesday around 07.00 AM at the same railway station in New Delhi.

Itinerary

Welcome aboard the royal journey called Palace on Wheels. Today in the morning, Alkof Holidays representative will pickup you from your hotel in New Delhi, and take your for a half-day tour of Delhi, where you will visit the India Gate, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb and more. Later in the evening around 1600 hours (04:00 PM), our representative will transfer you to the Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi to enjoy the week long journey of the Palace On Wheels.

 

On arrival at the railway station, you will be welcomed in a traditional style with garlanding, tikka and turban. After check-in formalities, enjoy free time for photoshoot with traditionally attired Palace on Wheels staff. Be escorted to your saloon cabins by personal attendant for briefing on cabin facilities. The train departs at 1830 hours (06:30 PM) & dinner served onboard.

Breakfast is served on-board. On arrival at Jaipur railway station, you will be welcomed by Royal Elephant. Later proceed to visit St. Albert Museum, City Palace, Hawal Mahal (Palace Of The Winds), & Jantar Mantar (Sun Observatory & a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

 

Later in the afternoon, visit the iconic attraction of Rajasthan "Amber Fort and Palace", A UNESCO World Heritage Site, built by Raja Man Singh in 1592 in red sandstone and marble. The magnificent fort comprises an extensive palace complex, divided into several sections. It stands on top of an easily scalable mountain, which is situated right next to the beautiful Maota Lake. Lunch is held in the 1135 AD Boutique Restaurant, located in Fort premises.

 

Around 4:30 pm, take a stroll inside the beautiful market of the historic walled pink city of Jaipur, where the old ways of life continue uninterrupted. Return to the Palace on Wheels around 6:00 PM & depart for the next destination. Dinner is served on-board.

Ranthambore National Park: Breakfast is served on-board. Early in the morning, around 6:30 AM proceed for a Jungle Safari inside the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. Watch the elusive Bengal tigers in there natural habitat, other animals that can be spotted during the safari are; Leopards, Striped Hyenas, Sambar deer, Chital, Nilgai, Hanuman Langurs, Sloth bears, Black bucks, Indian Flying Foxes, Indian Foxes, Snub Nosed Marsh Crocodiles, Desert Monitor Lizards, Banded Kraits, Cobras, Common Kraits, Ganga Soft Shelled Turtles, Indian Pythons, North Indian Flap Shelled Turtles and many more. Return back to Sawai Madhopur Railway Station, and depart for Chittorgarh by 10:00 AM. Lunch is served on-board.

 

Chittorgarh Hill Fort: Around 04:00 PM the Palace On Wheels reaches Chittorgarh Railway Station. Upon arrival, head-out to visit Chittorgarh Fort - the largest fort in India and Asia, and it is the perfect example of Rajput bravery. The fort was sacked 3 times from 1303 to 1568 by Mughal invaders, and its Hindu rulers fought fiercely to maintain their independence. On one occasion, when faced with a certain defeat, the men donned the saffron robes of martyrdom and fought to death, while the women and the children immolated themselves on a huge funeral pyre. Inside the Chittorgarh Fort, you will visit Rana Kumbha's Palace, Kumbha Shyam Temple, Victory Tower, Meerabai Temple, Tower of Fame, Padmini's Palace, Chittorgarh Museum, & Jaimal and Patta Palaces.

 

In the Evening, enjoy Sound & Light program in fort complex & later return to train for dinner. The train departs post midnight.

Breakfast is served on board. Arrive at Udaipur Railway Station around 08:00 AM, later visit the 17th century City Palace complex, the biggest palace complex in India, where four generations of Maharajas added mansions and palaces. Also visit the museum of the palace, which includes the beautiful peacock mosaic and miniature wall paintings of Indian mythology. Later enjoy boat ride on lake Pichola. Lunch is held at 5 star hotel in Udaipur.

 

Post lunch, visit the Royal Gardens at Saheliyon Ki Bari, after that you get free time for shopping. Return to the train by 03:00 PM & depart. Dinner is served on-board.

After breakfast at the train, proceed to visit the historic and well-preserved Jaisalmer fort, explore the maze of narrow streets in this open-air museum of the city with its ornately decorated havelis of yellow sandstone. The havelis were built by rich merchants at a time when the city was a key stop on the caravan routes from the Middle East. Salim Singh-Ki-Haveli & Patwon-Ki-Haveli are two of these intricate mansions with stone carvings and latticework.

 

Proceed for Lunch at a 5-Star Hotel. Later, proceed to the Sam Sand Dunes - 45 Km (28 mi) to see a complete sandy bush-less desert. On this glorious stretch of sweeping sand dunes, you will enjoy a camel ride and will be able to take your memorable pictures on the desert track with the setting sun in the backdrop. Enjoy the dinner and the cultural programs at a hotel in Jaisalmer. Return to the train by 10:00 PM and depart.

Train arrives at 08:00 AM in Jodhpur and after on-board breakfast. Later start your sightseeing from the visit of Massive Mehrangarh Fort - founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, Mehrangarh Fort is perched on a 150 m high hill its sprawl is the most formidable and magnificent fort in Rajasthan. There are seven gates, which include Jayapol (Victory Gate) built by Maharaja Man Singh to commemorate his victories over Jaipur and Bikaner armies. You can still see the battle scars on the second gate of the fort. Also visit Jaswant Thada, the graceful marble cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Later visit Mandore Garden, Clock Tower, and Sardar Market. Next visit Umaid Bhawan Museum, built between 1928 and 1943, it's the world's largest private residence of the royal family. Part of the palace is a luxury hotel, part of it royal quarters, and some part of the palace is dedicated to the Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum. Lunch is served at a good restaurant in Jodhpur.

 

Return to Palace on Wheels train and depart by 3:30PM. Dinner is served on-board.

At 06:30 AM proceed to UNESCO world Heritage Site of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, & later enjoy a rickshaw safari inside the bird sanctuary to witness 230 species of residential birds, 100+ migratory birds and many others species of different animals like snakes, lizards and other amphibian species. Return to train for breakfast & depart by 08:45 AM.

 

Train drops you at Railway station on outskirts of Agra at 10:30 AM. The sightseeing tour starts with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Agra Fort, the historical fort was built during 1565-1573 AD by Mughal Emperor Akbar.

 

Lunch will be served in a 5 star hotel, after that proceed to visit the Taj Mahal, another UNESCO World Heritage Site & one of the most famous landmarks in India. It was constructed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial to his queen Mumtaz Mahal and was made out of white marble took 22 years to complete (1630-1652 AD). Enjoy free time for shopping for handicrafts as souvenirs from the market of Agra. Return to train for onboard dinner & depart.

Cancellation

No additional cancellation fees apply for this tour. You can cancel the tour prior tour starting date and avoid paying the full amount, but the deposit you have paid is non-refundable. No refund applies for cancellations within of tour starting date.
