Omkareshwar is a sacred Hindu temple town located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The town is situated on an island in the Narmada river and is home to the Jyotirlinga temple of Lord Shiva. The temple, also known as the "Lord of Omkaara" or "Omkar Mandhata," is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are considered to be the most sacred shrines of Lord Shiva in India.
The temple complex, located on the top of the hill, comprises two main temples: the Omkareshwar temple and the Amareshwar temple. The temples are built in the traditional Nagara style of architecture and feature intricate carvings and sculptures. The inner sanctum of the temple houses a Shivalinga, which is considered to be one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva in India.
Apart from the temples, there are several other places of interest in Omkareshwar, including the Narmada river, which is considered to be very sacred by the Hindus and the Kedareshwar Temple, which is located on the opposite bank of the Narmada river.
The best time to visit Omkareshwar is from September to March, as the climate during these months is cool and pleasant.
Visitors to Omkareshwar can reach by Air nearest airport is Indore Airport and from there one can take a bus or taxi to reach Omkareshwar. Also direct buses and train are available from major city in Madhya Pradesh.

Shri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga
One of the holiest temples in India, Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga temples of Shiva. The temple is situated on the charming island of Mandhata which falls at the confluence point of the rivers Kaveri and Narmada. The shape of Mandhata Island resembles the sacred symbol of "Om" which makes this land even more divine. The temple boasts of the Nagara style of architecture with its elaborate and intricate carvings. Beautiful balconies and pillar carvings of various figures add to the visual charm of the temple. The Jyotirlinga installed on the lower floor of the temple remains submerged in water. You can also find 20 temples which are dedicated to several deities including Ganesha, Krishna, Narmada, and Shani.
Mamleshwar Temple
The actual name of this temple is Amreshwar Temple. It is a protected monument that exhibits the extraordinary architectural style of ancient India. Mamleshwar temple is spread over a smaller area that covers a hall and a sanctum. 22 brahmins performed the Lingarchan rituals on a daily basis in this temple since the reign of Maharani Ahilyabai. However, now the number of Brahmins have been brought down to just 5. Around 1000 Shivalingas are planted on a wooden board to perform the daily rituals. The temple walls are adorned with the Mahimna Strotam inscriptions.
Gauri Somnath Mandir
Gauri Somnath Temple is a revered Hindu temple located on Mandhata Island in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the biggest temples of Omkareshwar, and one of the best places to visit during Omkareshwar Yatra. The Gauri Somnath Temple on the Omkar Parikramapath is believed to have been built in the 11th century AD and is one of the many temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in Omkareshwar. The temple is very famous for its huge Shivling and Nandi idol. The Gauri Somnath temple is built in the Bhumji style of architecture. The temple is three storeyed and shaped like a peacock. With its soaring curved tower and lofty platform, the temple bears a striking resemblance to the Khajuraho temples. The sanctum sanctorum houses a huge Shiva linga, six feet tall, made of a black stone with a shiny black texture.

Considered very religious by the Hindus, this cave has a main hall and a small sanctum with a Shivling. Kedareshwar Temple
Kedareshwar Temple is a revered Hindu temple located on Mandhata Island in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Situated at the confluence of the Narmada and Kuberi rivers, it is one of the most prominent religious places to visit in Omkareshwar. Built-in the 11th century, the Kedareshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Kedar, another form of Lord Shiva. It boasts of complex architecture.
