We had a memorable time in Delhi and Agra, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of seeing the city and the countryside as we traveled between the two cities. The sites were amazing, as expected, and our guides were able and helpful in explaining what we were seeing and answering our many questions. They did a great job of ensuring we were able to get great photos as well along the way.

Alkof Holidays was a very good choice for arranging an individual journey throughout Darjeeling, Sikkim and Bhutan in November 2025. The planning via e-mail was easy and turned out to be perfect. The whole tour was professionally organized and included all important points of interest as well as our individual preferences. The guides and drivers in Darjeeling/Sikkim as well as in Bhutan were very nice, helpful and competent. Mr. Sanjeev Kumar himself was at all times very polite, kind and accommodating. Thank you! I can highly recommend Alkof Holidays!

First, I want to highlight that ALKOF HOLIDAYS truly deserves more than 5 stars!

First, I want to highlight that ALKOF HOLIDAYS truly deserves more than 5 stars!... First, I want to highlight that ALKOF HOLIDAYS truly deserves more than 5 stars! When my friend Elisabeth and I decided to take this trip, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar contacted us — and that turned out to be the best choice we could have made! He suggested different hotels, recommended excursions, and always ensured we had options that met our expectations and complete satisfaction. He customized the tour according to our wishes in the best possible way. He arranged highly competent, pleasant, friendly, and helpful guides and drivers with excellent cars. They always accepted all our ‘extra wishes,’ such as photo stops or changes in the planned schedule, and were always exactly on time. Mr. Gurvinder Singh gave us a wonderfully informative tour in Kolkata. During our days in Darjeeling, we had Mr. Amid Gurung, who was extremely caring, helpful, and always adjusted the excursions—especially those involving many steps or steep climbs—to my age (79). He supported me with great caution by holding my arm or hand whenever needed. Our driver, Mr. Binai, was the best driver you could imagine, especially considering the road conditions—landslides, rocks, roadwork, heavy traffic—but he handled everything perfectly and calmly! In Bhutan, our guide Mr. Sungay was such a pleasant companion and shared a lot about the country, its people, religion, and lifestyle. Our driver Ellis was also very kind, but Elisabeth somehow did not feel comfortable with his driving (although I did not agree!). So, we changed to Mr. Rimchen, another extremely kind, helpful, charming, pleasant, and excellent driver. We had a wonderful and very interesting trip with extraordinary views of mountains, monasteries, temples, tea estates, forests, rivers, flowers, and beautiful houses. We met unforgettable, kind people — and to top it all, we enjoyed blue skies and warm sunshine every single day! Mr. Sanjeev Kumar was always reachable whenever needed. Even when we returned to Delhi, he accompanied us to an extraordinary fabric factory that my friend wanted to visit. He arranged a car for the visit and organized a bigger vehicle for our return to the airport to accommodate all our luggage. Thanks to ALKOF HOLIDAYS, and especially to Mr. Sanjeev Kumar — who spent so much time and effort arranging our reservations, visas, and all the special extras — we look back on a wonderful trip we will never forget. We will continue to enjoy all the photos we took! We will certainly recommend ALKOF HOLIDAYS to all our friends and family who are interested in tours to Southeast Asia. Once again, my sincere thanks and best regards to Alkof Holidays! Sylvia Veronika Lukas

Badrinath Travel FAQs

Badrinath temple opens around late April or early May and closes in October or November for winter. The exact dates vary each year based on local conditions and religious calendar. During winter months, heavy snowfall makes the region inaccessible. The temple deity is shifted to Joshimath during closure. Most pilgrimage packages operate between May and October when weather permits safe travel.
Most Badrinath packages range from 5 to 12 days. A basic pilgrimage covering Badrinath alone takes 4-5 days from Delhi. However, most tours combine Badrinath with other Char Dham sites like Kedarnath, creating longer itineraries. The journey involves significant travel time due to mountain roads, so shorter trips focus mainly on temple visits while longer ones allow exploration of nearby areas.
May to June and September to October offer the most favorable conditions. May and June have pleasant weather but can be crowded during peak pilgrimage season. September and October provide clearer mountain views with fewer crowds after monsoon. July and August see heavy rainfall making roads risky. Winter visits are impossible as the temple remains closed from November to April.
Most journeys start from Delhi or Haridwar by road. From Delhi, the route passes through Haridwar, Rishikesh, Joshimath, and finally Badrinath, covering about 525 kilometers. The last motorable point is Badrinath town itself. No direct flights or trains reach the destination. Tours typically include private vehicles suitable for mountain terrain, with overnight stops at Haridwar or Joshimath to break the long journey.
Beyond the main temple, visitors explore Tapt Kund hot springs for ritual baths, Brahma Kapal for ancestral rites, and Sheshnetra viewpoint for valley views. The nearby Vasudhara Falls requires a short trek from Mana village. Mana village, claimed as India's last village before the Tibet border, offers insights into local mountain life. Many packages include these sites as day trips from Badrinath base.
The temple town itself is accessible by road, making it suitable for elderly visitors. However, the high altitude of 3,300 meters can cause breathing difficulties for some people. The mountain roads require careful driving, especially during monsoon or winter approach. Most tour packages include experienced drivers familiar with these routes. Medical facilities are basic, so travelers with health conditions should consult doctors before planning the trip.
No special permits are required for Badrinath temple visits. However, the region is close to international borders, so carrying valid photo identification is mandatory. Some nearby areas like certain trekking routes may have restrictions. Tour arrangements handle any required documentation. Visitors should carry original identity proofs as photocopies may not be accepted at checkpoints along the route.
Accommodation ranges from dharamshalas and guesthouses to mid-range hotels. Most options are basic but clean, focusing on essential amenities rather than luxury. The high altitude and remote location limit facility standards compared to plains destinations. Many pilgrimage packages include stays at Joshimath, which offers better accommodation options, with day trips to Badrinath temple. Advanced booking becomes essential during peak pilgrimage months.
Pack warm clothes including woolens even during summer months as temperatures drop significantly at night. Rain gear is essential for monsoon season visits. Comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, and sun protection are important due to high altitude. Basic medicines for altitude sickness, headaches, and stomach issues prove helpful. Carry extra layers as weather can change rapidly in mountain regions throughout the day.
Most packages combine Badrinath with other Char Dham sites like Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Popular combinations include Badrinath-Kedarnath packages or complete Char Dham circuits. Some itineraries pair Badrinath with Rishikesh and Haridwar for a comprehensive spiritual journey. The mountainous terrain means these combinations require 10-15 days to cover properly, allowing adequate travel time between high-altitude destinations.
