The best time to visit Kedarnath is from May to mid-June and September to October. During these months, the weather is pleasant and the temple is open for pilgrimage, making it ideal for trekking and sightseeing. The skies are usually clear, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. It's advisable to avoid visiting during the monsoon season (July to August) due to the risk of landslides and roadblocks. Additionally, from late November to April, the temple is closed and the region is covered in snow, making travel difficult.
The most important Char Dhams in Hinduism are:
- Badrinath (Uttarakhand) – Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Badrinath is a key pilgrimage site nestled in the Himalayas.
- Dwarka (Gujarat) – Associated with Lord Krishna, Dwarka is an ancient city and one of the four sacred pilgrimage sites.
- Puri (Odisha) – Famous for the Jagannath Temple, Puri is an important site dedicated to Lord Jagannath (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu).
- Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu) – Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Rameshwaram is located at the southern tip of India and holds great significance in Hindu mythology.
These four sites form the sacred Char Dham circuit and are considered essential pilgrimages for Hindus.
