Alkof Holidays was a very good choice for arranging an individual journey throughout Darjeeling, Sikkim and Bhutan in November 2025. The planning via e-mail was easy and turned out to be perfect. The whole tour was professionally organized and included all important points of interest as well as our individual preferences. First, I want to highlight that ALKOF HOLIDAYS truly deserves more than 5 stars!... First, I want to highlight that ALKOF HOLIDAYS truly deserves more than 5 stars! When my friend Elisabeth and I decided to take this trip, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar contacted us — and that turned out to be the best choice we could have made! He suggested different hotels, recommended excursions, and always ensured we had options that met our expectations and complete satisfaction. He customized the tour according to our wishes in the best possible way. He arranged highly competent, pleasant, friendly, and helpful guides and drivers with excellent cars. They always accepted all our ‘extra wishes,’ such as photo stops or changes in the planned schedule, and were always exactly on time. Mr. Gurvinder Singh gave us a wonderfully informative tour in Kolkata. During our days in Darjeeling, we had Mr. Amid Gurung, who was extremely caring, helpful, and always adjusted the excursions—especially those involving many steps or steep climbs—to my age (79). He supported me with great caution by holding my arm or hand whenever needed. Our driver, Mr. Binai, was the best driver you could imagine, especially considering the road conditions—landslides, rocks, roadwork, heavy traffic—but he handled everything perfectly and calmly! In Bhutan, our guide Mr. Sungay was such a pleasant companion and shared a lot about the country, its people, religion, and lifestyle. Our driver Ellis was also very kind, but Elisabeth somehow did not feel comfortable with his driving (although I did not agree!). So, we changed to Mr. Rimchen, another extremely kind, helpful, charming, pleasant, and excellent driver. We had a wonderful and very interesting trip with extraordinary views of mountains, monasteries, temples, tea estates, forests, rivers, flowers, and beautiful houses. We met unforgettable, kind people — and to top it all, we enjoyed blue skies and warm sunshine every single day! Mr. Sanjeev Kumar was always reachable whenever needed. Even when we returned to Delhi, he accompanied us to an extraordinary fabric factory that my friend wanted to visit. He arranged a car for the visit and organized a bigger vehicle for our return to the airport to accommodate all our luggage. Thanks to ALKOF HOLIDAYS, and especially to Mr. Sanjeev Kumar — who spent so much time and effort arranging our reservations, visas, and all the special extras — we look back on a wonderful trip we will never forget. We will continue to enjoy all the photos we took! We will certainly recommend ALKOF HOLIDAYS to all our friends and family who are interested in tours to Southeast Asia. Agartala features the Ujjayanta Palace, now a state museum with royal artifacts and historical displays. The Neermahal water palace sits on Rudrasagar Lake about 50 kilometers away. Local markets like Maharaja Bir Bikram College Market offer handicrafts and handloom products. The city serves as a base for visits to nearby attractions including Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary and traditional villages. Most tours combine Agartala with other Northeast destinations.
Two to three days covers the main attractions in Agartala itself. The Ujjayanta Palace and city areas take about a day, while Neermahal requires a half-day trip. An additional day allows time for local markets and nearby spots like Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary. Most packages include Agartala as part of longer Northeast itineraries covering multiple states over 7-10 days.
October to March offers pleasant weather with temperatures between 15-25°C and minimal rainfall. This period is ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. April and May become quite warm. The monsoon season from June to September brings heavy rainfall that can affect travel plans, though the landscape becomes very green during this time.
Agartala Airport connects to Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, and Guwahati with regular flights. The city is also accessible by train from Lumding in Assam, though the journey takes about 12 hours. Ujjayanta Palace was built in 1901 by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya and served as the royal residence until 1972. The Indo-Saracenic architecture combines European and Mughal styles. The palace grounds include landscaped gardens and are centrally located in Agartala.
Neermahal is a water palace built in 1930 by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya on Rudrasagar Lake. Located about 50 kilometers from Agartala city, it takes roughly 90 minutes by road. The palace combines Hindu and Islamic architectural elements and offers boat rides on the lake. It typically requires a half-day excursion from Agartala.
Tripuri cuisine features rice as the staple with fish, vegetables, and bamboo shoots. Local dishes include Mui Borok (fermented fish curry), Gudok (mixed vegetable curry), and various preparations with bamboo shoots. Bengali influence is strong due to the cultural connection with West Bengal. Local markets and restaurants serve both traditional Tripuri food and Bengali specialties.
Agartala is generally safe for tourists with standard precautions. The city has improved infrastructure and tourist facilities in recent years. As with any destination, avoid isolated areas after dark and keep valuables secure. The local population is welcoming to visitors.
