After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, begin your exploration of Kolkata, affectionately known as the City of Joy. Your first stop is the iconic Howrah Bridge, an engineering marvel that connects the city across the Hooghly River. As you cross the bridge, you'll be greeted with stunning views of the bustling cityscape and the serene river below. It's a great spot to capture some memorable photos. Next, visit the Victoria Memorial Hall, one of the most renowned landmarks in Kolkata. This magnificent marble structure, built in honor of Queen Victoria, houses a museum showcasing artifacts from the British colonial period. Continue your journey to the Mother House of the Missionaries of Charity, founded by the beloved Mother Teresa. Afterward, head to the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, one of Kolkata's most revered Hindu temples. Located on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali and is a significant pilgrimage site. Your next stop is St. Paul's Cathedral, a beautiful Anglican cathedral known for its Gothic architecture. As the day draws to a close, make your way to the Eden Gardens, one of the most famous cricket stadiums in the world. Although you won't be attending a match, you'll have the chance to admire the stadium from the outside, especially as it lights up in the evening. Early in the morning, take a 1-hour flight from Kolkata to Bagdogra. Upon arrival at NJP/IXB, our driver will greet you and transfer you to Kalimpong. Once you arrive in Kalimpong, check in at your hotel. After freshening up, head out for a sightseeing tour of Kalimpong. Begin with a visit to Durpin Hill, where you can explore the renowned Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Monastery, which belongs to the same Buddhist sect as the current Dalai Lama. Next, visit popular tourist spots like Jelapla View Point, Pine View Point, Chitra Bhanu, Kalim Temple, and Dr. Graham's Homes Complex. You’ll also visit Delo Hill (5,556 ft), the highest point in Kalimpong, offering panoramic views of the entire town, the majestic Mt. Kanchenjunga, nearby villages, the Relli Valley on one side, and the Teesta River on the other. Return to your hotel by evening for an overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for Gangtok. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and take some time to rest and relax. Later, head out for a sightseeing tour of Gangtok. Begin with a visit to Hanuman Tok, a temple complex in the upper reaches of Gangtok dedicated to Lord Hanuman and maintained by the Indian Army. Then, visit Ganesh Tok, the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom (closed on Sundays), Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (closed on Sundays), Do Drul Chorten Monastery, and Banjhakri Falls and Energy Park. In the evening, return to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Today, embark on an unforgettable excursion to Changu Lake, also known as Tsomgo Lake. This stunning glacial lake, situated at an altitude of 12,400 feet, is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and pristine landscapes. The lake's crystal-clear waters reflect the surrounding peaks, creating a picture-perfect scene. During the winter, the lake often freezes, adding to its ethereal beauty. After soaking in the serene atmosphere of Changu Lake, continue to Baba Mandir, a sacred shrine dedicated to Baba Harbhajan Singh, a revered Indian Army soldier. - Permit and Document Requirements:: To issue permits for Tsomgo Lake, New Baba Mandir, Nathula Pass, Lachen, and Lachung, you need to provide both sides of a photocopy of a valid driving license, passport, or voter ID for adults, a birth certificate for minors, and passport-size photos of everyone.
- Supplementary costs: Supplementary costs (subject to change) include: USD 30 per person for the Toy Train Joy Ride in Darjeeling plus USD 16 per vehicle for halting charges, and USD 40 per car for luxury vehicles or USD 30 per car for Sedans/Wagon Rs at the Rock Garden in Darjeeling.
- All transfers from Gangtok, Pelling, or Darjeeling to onward destinations will be provided either in the morning between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. or in the afternoon between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
- If any of the mentioned sightseeing points is closed due to renovation, weekly closures, or any other reason, it will not be covered on another day. Please note that no alternate sightseeing will be arranged for the closed point.
- Infrastructure, Parking & Vehicle Logistics:
- In no-parking zones or if parking is unavailable at the hotel, vehicles will be parked in the nearest available area.
- Guests should be at the reception 5 minutes before departure and be patient as the driver navigates traffic.
- The tourism infrastructure in Sikkim and Darjeeling is not as developed as in plains, many hotels lack lifts and may have restricted water and power availability.
- Guests with health issues should inform us at booking so we can arrange rooms on lower floors.
- North Sikkim Travel Advisory:
- Due to poor road conditions and frequent landslides, guests should carry minimal luggage to North Sikkim and leave the rest in Gangtok.
- Senior citizens and children under 10 are not advised to visit Gurudongmar Lake due to high altitude.
- In Lachen and Lachung, most hotels lack heating systems and geysers, providing hot water bags and bucket-supplied hot water instead.
- Hotels in this area offer only basic amenities and simple food cooked by locals rather than a hotel chef.
- Nathula Pass Permits and Visits:
- Nathula is closed on Mondays. Nathula Pass permits are issued on a rotation basis and typically require 48 hours' notice, with issuance only 24 hours before or on the day of the tour.
- The Indian Army permits visits only from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, so early departure from Gangtok is essential.
- During high season, we will attempt to secure a permit and refund the supplement if unsuccessful due to weather or other reasons.
- If the permit is issued but the visit cannot be made, no refunds will be provided. We will also try to obtain a premium, non-clubbed permit for SUVs.
- If there are fewer than 6 people, small groups may be combined, possibly requiring vehicle changes or consolidations, with no refunds provided in such cases.
- Alkof Holidays reserves the right to modify the itinerary due to reasons like climate changes or hotel availability. Vehicle changes may occur based on the itinerary or sector-specific requirements, and vehicles are not available on disposal.
Payment Terms
A deposit of 10% is required to confirm this tour, and the remaining balance will be charged 30 days prior tour starting date. For any bookings within 30 days of departure, the full tour amount will be charged upon booking. This can be paid through bank transfer, credit/debit card, or cash.
