Why This Circuit: Panna, Bandhavgarh, and Kanha Together

Panna, Bandhavgarh, and Kanha each offer a distinct forest ecosystem, and together they cover the range of terrain and wildlife that Central India is known for.

Panna sits on the Ken River, with riverine habitat, teak forest, and rocky plateau that also support gharial and marsh crocodile, species not found in the other two parks. It gives the circuit its water based landscape and its lower visitor density compared to Bandhavgarh and Kanha.

Bandhavgarh is built around sal forest, open meadow, and the ruins of a centuries old fort on the plateau above. Its core zone holds one of the highest tiger densities of any reserve in India, which is why it anchors the middle of the trip.

Kanha is the forest that inspired Kipling's Jungle Book, with sal and bamboo forest opening into wide meadows. It is the last remaining habitat of the hard ground barasingha, a species found nowhere else in the wild, alongside tiger, wild dog, and leopard.

Placed together, the three parks move a traveler through river, plateau, and meadow terrain, and through three separate tiger populations, rather than repeating the same landscape and the same forest three times over. The Khajuraho stop between Panna and Bandhavgarh adds a cultural break in the middle of the wildlife legs, so the circuit is not six straight days of safari driving.

What You Will See

Across six safaris in three parks, the circuit brings a working cross section of Central India's forest wildlife into view.

Panna's safaris run along the Ken River and its gorge, where gharial and marsh crocodile bask on the banks and sightings of tiger, leopard, sloth bear, chital, sambar, and nilgai are common. The river also draws strong birdlife, including king vulture and long billed vulture, making Panna a stronger stop for birders than the other two parks.

At Khajuraho, the pause is architectural rather than wildlife focused: the sandstone carvings of the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sit between the Panna and Bandhavgarh legs of the trip.

Bandhavgarh's safaris cover ground where tiger sightings are most frequent on this circuit, alongside leopard, sloth bear, and wild dog. Chital, sambar, and langur move through the core zone in large numbers, and raptors are a regular feature of the drives.

Kanha's safaris are built around the hard ground barasingha, found only here in the wild, along with tiger, leopard, wild dog, and gaur. Kanha also holds the circuit's largest chital and sambar populations, the prey base that supports its tiger numbers.

Sightings vary safari to safari and cannot be guaranteed, but the terrain, prey base, and naturalist led tracking across three parks give this circuit a broad and consistent chance to see Central India's core wildlife over the course of the trip.

Best Time to Visit

This circuit runs from October to June, when Panna, Bandhavgarh, and Kanha are open for safari. All three parks close during the monsoon, typically from July 1 to September 30, so travel is not possible in those months.

October to February brings cooler, dry weather, comfortable daytime safari conditions, and the parks at their greenest following the monsoon. Visibility can be lower in dense cover during these months, but daytime temperatures are the most comfortable of the season.

March to June is peak tiger sighting season. As temperatures rise and water sources shrink, wildlife concentrates around the remaining waterholes and rivers, and forest cover thins out, making sightings more frequent. April to June is hot, with daytime temperatures regularly above 40°C, so early morning and late afternoon safaris are timed around the cooler parts of the day.

November to February also suits travelers prioritizing comfort over peak wildlife activity, while March to May suits those prioritizing tiger sightings and willing to travel in heat.

How the Trip is Structured

The trip runs nine days from New Delhi back to New Delhi, moving through the circuit in one direction rather than backtracking. It opens in Delhi, flies to Panna, and continues by road to Khajuraho for the temple visit, then on to Bandhavgarh and finally Kanha, with a return flight from Jabalpur to Delhi to close the trip. Each park stop includes two private safaris in the core zone, accompanied by a wildlife naturalist, so the pace allows enough time to read the terrain rather than rush through it. Road transfers between Panna, Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh, and Kanha are covered by private vehicle, an English speaking guide travels with you throughout, and the only flights on the trip are the Delhi to Jabalpur legs at the start and end. The result is a linear, guided route through three parks and one heritage site, without repeated backtracking or wasted travel days.

• Once safaris are confirmed, the safari fees are non-refundable. Please carry your original valid passport or ID proof to present at the entry gate for safaris.
• The core zones for safaris in Panna, Bandhavgarh, and Kanha National Park remain closed every Wednesday. Please plan accordingly.

• Transportation is provided according to the itinerary only and is not available on a disposal or point-to-point basis.
• Tipping in India is not compulsory, it is optional but appreciated. A small gratuity is expected in some cases; tip generously for exceptional service. The amount can range from $2, $5, $10 per day, or more, depending on satisfaction and the quality of service received.

Payment Terms

A deposit of 30% is required to confirm this tour, and the remaining balance will be charged 150 days prior tour starting date. For any bookings within 150 days of departure, the full tour amount will be charged upon booking. This can be paid through bank transfer, credit/debit card, or cash.
