Highlights

Start and ends in Kathmandu! The 7 days Mount Everest tour will let you discover some of the world's most important Hindu temples and palaces and to explore and shop in the maze of cobbled lanes and streets of the fabled Thamel area.

Enjoy the fantastic trekking under the eyes of many of the world's highest mountains including Sagamartha, Mother Goddess of the Earth (Everest) herself. The Everest Sherpa Land trek takes us from the tiny airstrip at Lukla to the bustling Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar, for many hundreds of years the high mountain market for traders from Tibet and Nepal. Following in the footsteps of some of our greatest climbers along the traditional expedition route we spend the mornings trekking with an experienced team of local guides with plenty of time to chill out and relax or explore the locale.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Alkof Holidays representative will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. Welcome drinks will be served and rooms will be provided after check-in process.

At the hotel you will be briefed about your daily activities.

Overnight in Kathmandu.

After breakfast at the hotel, commence the sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Durbar square, Swayambhunath stupa and Patan Durbar square.

SWAYAMBHUNATH STUPA: Said to be around 2000 years old, this Buddhist Stupa sits atop a hillock 02 kilometres west of Kathmandu overlooking the valley. The oldest written reference to the stupa dates from the 5th century, but it could have existed much earlier. Moreover, a legend has it that the stupa evolved spontaneously at the time of the Kathmandu valley's creation. Swayambhunath is famously known as as "the Monkey Temple" owing to the presence of a large number of monkeys around the area.

THAMEL: Later, get on a rickshaw (tricycle) for an interesting 20-minute ride to the tourist hub of Thamel. Travelers and the locals consider it a tourist haven. Its filled with narrow streets, all lined with budget hotels, small shops selling everything from food and provisions to clothes, carpets, walking gears, music CDs, DVDs, handicrafts, paintings which make it an ideal place for souvenir shopping. The area also has some very good restaurants when you need to stop for munching.

KATHMANDU DURBAR SQUARE: The durbar square with its arrays of temples, courtyards, monuments and the ancient palaces of the former Nepali Royals is located in Basantapur in the heart of Kathmandu city, the country's capital. Chief attractions here include Hanuman Dhoka Royal Palace, the magnificent Taleju Temple towering more than 40 meters; Kumari Ghar, the residence of the Living Goddess, Kumari; the temple of Ashok Vinayak dedicated to lord Ganesh (elephant headed deity), and Kal Bhairav, the God of Wrath. There is a giant pagoda of 'Kasthamandap', a structure which is said to have been built out of a single tree. The name of the capital 'Kathmandu' is said to be actually derived from 'Kasthamandap'.

PATAN DURBAR SQUARE: Located 5 km southeast of Kathmandu, the Patan city popularly known as 'the city of artisans' accommodates a magnificent square housing the palace buildings of the then royals, artistic courtyards and graceful pagoda temples - a display of Newari architecture that had reached its pinnacle during the reign of the Malla kings. It is filled with wood and stone carvings, metal statues, and ornate architecture, including dozens of Buddhist and Hindu temples, and over 1200 monuments.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

We make an early start to take a spectacular, short mountain flight to Lukla, the start point for our trek. Our trekking crew meets us at the Lukla airstrip and we'll spend a few minutes sorting out our bags etc before setting off through this winding village to the trek start proper at the Khumbu gateway. It's gently downhill on pitched stone trails through low rhododendron forest, small garden farms and old and new hamlets to the banks of the foaming Dudh Koshi River.

Lukla to Monjo (approximately 5-6 hours walking)

There will be plenty of short stops to meet the locals, take photographs and just soak up the scenery and the clear mountain air as we meander along, the undulating trail glimpsing views of 6000m snow-capped peaks high above. The gently undulating trail follows the right bank of the Dudh Koshi through Phakding village before the first of several river crossings on wire suspension bridges. Continuing through pine forest and small villages we come to a break in the trees to catch sight of the mighty Thamserku (6623m) towering way above. A couple more hours of woodland trails and swaying bridges brings us to the small village of Monjo. Our lodge for the night is located above the village with spectacular views of Thamserku and KusumKangri. Dinner is included.

Overnight stay at the lodge in Monjo.

Monjo to Namche (approximately 4 to 5 hours walking)

A short walk from the lodge brings us to the gateway to the Sagamartha National Park. We stop to have a look at the interesting 3D map and information boards whilst our guide sorts out our permits and entry. From here we have another 40 minutes or so along the sides of the Dudh Khosi before crossing the Bhote Khosi, raging in form a side valley, and beginning our climb to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. The trail zigzags up away from the river, gradually ascending to the tree line opening out into a high mountain bowl and the vibrant village of Namche. We pass through the many tiny shops and colourful stalls picking our way slowly up hand cut stone steps to our wonderful Yeti Mountain Home Lodge. This is our first night above 3000m so it's important to take it easy and let your body adjust. Relax with a tea or coffee and maybe even take a massage in our spa.

Overnight stay at the lodge in Namche.

Today we will take a gentle walk to gain a little height and then have the afternoon free to explore the shops and cafes of this delightful little town. Your guide will take you to a couple of wonderful viewpoints to see the rockstars of the mountain world spread out before you: Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest, Ama Dablam... they ring the deep valley sides in a magnificent arena. You should also be able to see the trails to the Everest. If you are feeling energized we will continue on to the delightful villages of Kumjung and Kunde with their health post and school both started by the Sir Edmund Hilary Fund. After lunch you are free to head down to the Namche market to browse the shops, chat to the locals and maybe pick up a souvenir or two. You may also see the Tibetan traders who make a yearly journey over the high passes from the Tibetan plateau with their yaks laden with goods to sell at the markets. Late in the afternoon there's an option to visit Namche Monastery. The monastery is about 80 years old and has beautiful Thanka paintings of Tibetan deities. You are most welcome to burn a butter lamp for your loved ones.

Overnight stay at the lodge in Namche.

A privately chartered helicopter will pick you from Namche and fly you to Kalapatthar (5140 m) for a brief stopover (weather permitting) before taking you to Yeti Mountain Home/Kongde for breakfast overflying the elusive Everest base camp.

After breakfast you will fly to Kathmandu.
