Upon arriving at Srinagar Airport, you will be warmly greeted by an Alkof Holidays representative who will assist with your transfer to a traditional houseboat on Dal Lake. Settle into your unique floating accommodation and take some time to unwind and soak in the tranquil atmosphere. Later in the day, embark on a scenic Shikara ride across the iconic Dal Lake. This serene boat journey offers a chance to explore the picturesque 'Char Chinar'—a cluster of four majestic chinar trees standing proudly amidst the lake. As you glide through the calm waters, you will encounter the renowned Floating Gardens, where vibrant blooms drift gently on the water's surface. The ride also takes you past charming houseboats and intricate canals, all set against the stunning backdrop of the surrounding hills and mountains. Dinner and overnight stay at the houseboat in Srinagar.

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and begin your scenic drive to Pahalgam, stopping en route at the mesmerizing Drung Waterfall. Continuing along National Highway 1A, you will pass through Anantnag, the second-largest city in Kashmir, before following the Lidder River, which flows in the opposite direction, creating a stunning backdrop. Upon arrival in Pahalgam, check in at your hotel and unwind. The rest of the day is at leisure, offering time to relax or explore at your own pace. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, surrounded by Pahalgam’s serene beauty.

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, embark on a day of exploration in Pahalgam, beginning with Betaab Valley, a breathtaking green oasis just 8 km away, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and dense forests, perfect for nature lovers and photographers. Continue to Aru Valley, known for its serene meadows and stunning views, serving as a base for treks to Kolahoi Glacier and Tarsar-Marsar lakes, and enjoy a peaceful walk along the Lidder River, which offers trout fishing and rafting opportunities. Also visit the charming Aru Village to gain insight into local traditions before heading to the Awantipura Ruins, an ancient 9th-century temple built by King Avantivarman, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and rich with history. End your day with a peaceful Shikara ride on the Lidder River before returning to your hotel.

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for Srinagar. Upon arrival, visit the iconic Shankaracharya Temple, perched atop the Zabarwan Range, about 1,000 feet above the valley floor, offering panoramic views of Srinagar and Dal Lake. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is also known as the Jyeshteshwara Temple, which holds great religious and historical significance, with roots tracing back to King Gopaditya (371 BCE) and later contributions by Mihirakula and Adi Shankaracharya. The temple is accessible via a road from Boulevard Road near Gagribal, followed by a 243-step climb. It is a revered pilgrimage site steeped in history. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Srinagar.

After breakfast, proceed to Doodhpathri, a stunning bowl-shaped valley located 42 km from Srinagar in the Budgam district. Nestled at an altitude of 8,960 feet, this picturesque destination is adorned with lush green meadows and surrounded by towering pine trees. A pristine river flows through the valley, creating a soothing ambiance as the soft wind rustles through the trees. Known as the "Valley of Milk," Doodhpathri gets its name from a local legend involving Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani, who, while searching for water, struck the ground with his stick, causing milk to gush out before transforming into water. Some believe the name also comes from the river’s milky appearance as it rushes over rocks. After soaking in the breathtaking scenery, return to Srinagar for dinner and an overnight stay.

Embark on a full-day excursion to Gulmarg, famously known as the "Meadow of Flowers." Located 53 km from Srinagar at an altitude of 8,700 feet, Gulmarg is a renowned ski resort and home to the world’s highest 18-hole golf course. This picturesque destination gained prominence during the British era and continues to captivate visitors with its breathtaking landscapes. Also enjoy the scenic views of Kongdori on an optional Gondola ride, one of the highest cable cars in the world, offering stunning panoramas of the Pir Panjal range. After a day of exploration, return to Srinagar for dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Kargil, located 204 kilometers from Srinagar, passing through the picturesque town of Sonamarg. Nestled at an altitude of 9,000 feet, Sonamarg, known as the "Meadow of Gold," is renowned for its breathtaking backdrop of snow-capped mountains against a deep blue sky. The Sindh River, flowing through the valley, is famous for trout and mahaseer fishing, making it a great spot for nature enthusiasts. Pause in Sonamarg to capture photographs or enjoy a cup of tea. If interested, opt for a pony ride to Thajiwas Glacier, a stunning site accessible year-round (additional charges apply).

Continue your journey towards Kargil, crossing the Zojila Pass, a high-altitude mountain pass that connects Kashmir to Ladakh. Stop in Drass, recognized as the second coldest inhabited place on Earth, for a warm cup of tea. Here, visit the Kargil War Memorial and Museum, also known as Vijay Path, established by the Indian Army to honor the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War. Drive along the Drass River to Kargil, where you'll check in at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Kargil.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Leh, passing through breathtaking landscapes and historic landmarks. Your journey begins with a stop at Mulbekh Monastery, home to the impressive ancient rock-carved Maitreya Buddha statue, a sacred site deeply rooted in Ladakh’s heritage. As the route winds through Namika La and Fotu La, two high-altitude mountain passes, you will be treated to awe-inspiring panoramic views of rugged terrains. The journey then leads to Lamayuru Monastery, one of Ladakh’s oldest and most revered monasteries, surrounded by an intriguing lunar-like terrain famously called Moonland.

Further along, witness the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, a mesmerizing natural wonder where these two powerful water bodies merge, creating a breathtaking sight. Experience the famous Magnetic Hill, an optical illusion where vehicles appear to roll uphill due to the unique landscape. Stop by Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a revered Sikh shrine built in honor of Guru Nanak Dev’s visit in 1517. Then, visit Kali Mata Mandir, a sacred Hindu temple offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Upon reaching Leh, explore Leh Palace, also known as Lachen Palkar Palace, a magnificent 17th-century royal residence offering stunning views over the city. The day concludes with a visit to Shanti Stupa, a serene white-domed structure perched on a hilltop, perfect for taking in breathtaking sunset views. You will have time to unwind, acclimatize to the altitude, and enjoy a delightful dinner before settling in for an overnight stay at your hotel in Leh.

After breakfast, your journey continues with a visit to Basgo Monastery, a historically significant site that once served as the royal capital of Lower Ladakh. This monastery is famed for its beautifully restored copper and gold Maitreya Buddha statue, and its conservation efforts earned the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award of Excellence in 2007. Next, visit Likir Monastery, originally founded in the 12th century but later reconstructed following a fire. The highlight here is the imposing 23-meter-high gold-covered Maitreya Buddha statue, which stands majestically against the backdrop of Ladakh’s rugged terrain. Continue your exploration at Alchi Monastery, an 11th-century gompa unique for its Kashmiri-influenced Buddhist art, distinct from the traditional Tibetan style found in other Ladakhi monasteries. You will have the chance to admire the Sumtsek Temple and Dukhang (Assembly Hall), known for their intricate murals and elaborate wood carvings.

Also visit the War Memorial (Hall of Fame), a tribute built by the Indian Army to honor soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Indo-Pak wars. Later visit to Spituk Monastery, an 11th-century Buddhist monastery, provides an opportunity to witness stunning hilltop views and explore its spiritually significant structures. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Leh.

After breakfast at the hotel, set off on a mesmerizing drive to Nubra Valley, also known as Ldumra or the Valley of Flowers. Located north of Ladakh between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the Himalayas, this stunning valley sits at an average altitude of 10,000 feet. On the way, cross Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable passes in the world, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and majestic mountains. Upon arrival in Nubra Valley, check in at the hotel or camp for an overnight stay, surrounded by the valley’s serene landscapes.

After breakfast, visit the stunning silver sand dunes of Hunder, a picturesque village where the Shyok River meets the Nubra River. Famous for its cold desert landscape, Hunder offers a unique experience with a camel safari on double-humped Bactrian camels, reminiscent of the ancient Silk Route trade.

Next, explore Diskit Monastery, the largest and oldest monastery in Nubra Valley, belonging to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism2. Perched on a hilltop, it offers breathtaking views of the entire valley. The colossal 106-foot Maitreya Buddha statue, facing the Shyok River, symbolizes peace and protection for the region. Also take a leisurely stroll through the small village market in Diskit to get a glimpse of local life. Later, drive back to Leh via Khardung-La Pass. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel for an overnight stay.

Early in the morning, take your packed breakfast from the hotel and set off for Pangong TSO Lake, one of the highest brackish lakes in the world, situated at an elevation of 4,350 meters. The lake’s brilliant blue waters contrast sharply with the surrounding arid mountains, creating a mesmerizing landscape. Stretching over 160 kilometers, one-third of Pangong Lake lies in India, while the remaining two-thirds extend into China.

On the way, visit Shey Palace, the former summer retreat of the King of Ladakh, featuring a gold-plated copper statue of Buddha. Next, explore Thiksey Monastery, one of the largest monasteries in Ladakh, perched on a hilltop with breathtaking views of the Indus Valley. The monastery belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism and houses a 15-meter-high Maitreya Buddha statue.

Continue your journey to Changla Pass, situated at 5,360 meters (17,590 feet), offering stunning mountain views and a perfect spot for quick photo ops. Then, drive down to the village of Tangtse for a relaxing tea break before proceeding to Pangong TSO Lake. Upon arrival, check in at your camp. If time allows, take a stroll by the lake, soaking in its serene beauty. Overnight stay at the camp.

After breakfast at the camp, spend the morning exploring the stunning Pangong Lake and its surroundings. The lake’s brilliant blue waters contrast beautifully with the rugged mountains, creating a mesmerizing landscape.

In the afternoon, drive back to Leh, stopping en route at Hemis Gompa, located 45 km from Leh. This monastery, belonging to the Drukpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, was re-established in 1672 by King Sengge Namgyal and is renowned for hosting the annual Hemis Festival in early June, celebrating Guru Padmasambhava, the revered Buddhist master.

Upon arrival in Leh, check in at the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or explore the local market, where you can shop for traditional Ladakhi handicrafts, pashmina shawls, and Tibetan jewelry. Overnight stay at the hotel, reflecting on the serene beauty and rich cultural heritage of Ladakh.

It's time to bid farewell to Ladakh. Depart for Leh Airport in time for your onward journey.

Both the guide and driver were highly professional, and the guide's knowledge was impressive. However, I would like to suggest a small improvement: crossing the Changla Pass twice was a bit inconvenient. It would have been more efficient to travel directly from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake, crossing the Changla Pass only once.

Going to Ladakh was a very special experience and I would recommend this tour hi... Going to Ladakh was a very special experience and I would recommend this tour highly. The landscape was absolutely spectacular and the blend of history, culture and geostrategic importance was fascinating. My tour with Alkof Holidays was very well organised. I requested an extra day be added to my trip and they organised a day of visits to Hemis and Thiksey Monasteries and Shey Palace. My guide Riyaz was fantastic, very kind and provided me with lots of insights about the region. There are too many highlights to list but the top of the list would be Pangong Lake.
