The best time to visit Ladakh is from May to September. During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm and the high-altitude roads and passes are generally open, making it ideal for exploring the region’s stunning landscapes, including Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and the monasteries. Visitors should be prepared for these harsh conditions by dressing in layers with thermal wear, insulated gloves, and warm footwear to ensure a comfortable and safe experience.
To avoid altitude sickness in Ladakh, acclimatize gradually by spending a couple of days in Leh before ascending to higher altitudes. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and heavy meals, and take it easy for the first 24-48 hours. Consulting a doctor about preventive medication like Diamox can also help.
