Spend the rest of the day at your leisure, acclimatizing to the altitude and climate of Leh. In the evening, visit the beautiful Shanti Stupa on a hilltop. Later, explore the local market and shop for authentic Tibetan handicrafts like prayer wheels, stoles, and pashmina shawls. Overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, head out to explore the beautiful Sham Valley. This place offers a touching tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the Indo-Pak wars, built by the Indian Army. Next, visit the Kali Mata Mandir, followed by the historic Spituk Gompa, a stunning 11th-century Buddhist monastery. Continue to Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, built in honor of Guru Nanak Dev's visit in 1517. Experience the fascinating Magnetic Hill, where the road seems to defy gravity, and enjoy the scenic drive to the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers. After an inspiring day, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
This day marks the start of your Snow Leopard Trek. After an early breakfast, depart for Zingchen, ensuring you carry extra water as it may be hours before you find a drinking source along the trail. During the drive to Zingchen, you may spot the guards of Hemis National Park.
The trek begins on foot from Zingchen, heading towards the Rumbak Valley via a gentle, uphill trail. Maintain a steady pace as the trail is predominantly ascending. Rumbak Valley offers a prime opportunity for your first Snow Leopard sighting, so stay observant. Your guide will be in touch with local contacts for updates on Snow Leopard activity. After lunch, hike to a nearby viewpoint to scan for Snow Leopards and other wildlife. Enjoy dinner and overnight stay at the campsite.
Next four days will be spent in Hemis National Park, using your Rumbak camp as a base. Our guide will search the trails looking for signs of Snow Leopards throughout the Rumbhak, Husing, & Tarbung valleys, in these area we can find around 9 to 10 different cats. After breakfast, our guide will make a decision on where to take you for the day to trace Snow Leopards. Dinner & overnight stay at the camp in Rumbak Valley.
Today, we'll trek to Chortenchan, situated at 4,084 meters. Our route takes us through Stok La, offering views of the upper Indus Valley and Stok Gorge with its stunning rock formations. We’ll then descend to Khilchay, a summer pasture for Stok village, cross two small humps, and make our way down to Stok Nallah. From there, walk uphill on the left bank of Stok Nallah for about twenty minutes to reach another summer pasture, Chortenchan. Here, if we’re fortunate, we might spot a snow leopard. This location also offers excellent chances to see the snow leopard's primary prey, the blue sheep, along with other wildlife such as wolves, Himalayan foxes, marmots, and various bird species including chukor partridges, snow cocks, lammergeyers, accentors, rose finches, redstarts, Eurasian hobbies, and kestrels. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the camp in Chortenchan.
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast, then gear up for an exciting adventure. Embark on a steady three-hour climb to reach the base camp of Stok Kangri. Enjoy the stunning scenery along the way. After your trek, savor a delicious dinner and unwind with an overnight stay in tents at the base camp.
Explore the valley, where panoramic views of the surrounding peaks create an ideal setting for spotting Snow Leopards and a variety of birds and animals. After a day of adventure, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in tents at the base camp.
