Swayambhunath Stupa: Begin your day with a visit to Swayambhunath Stupa, perched on a hillock 2 kilometers west of Kathmandu. This ancient Buddhist stupa, estimated to be around 2000 years old, offers breathtaking views over the valley. While the oldest written references date back to the 5th century, local legends suggest it could be much older, possibly forming during the valley’s creation. The stupa is popularly known as the "Monkey Temple" due to the large population of monkeys that roam the site.

Thamel: Next, hop on a rickshaw for a charming 20-minute ride to Thamel, Kathmandu’s bustling tourist district. This lively area is filled with narrow streets lined with a diverse range of shops, budget hotels, and eateries. It’s an excellent spot for souvenir shopping, offering everything from clothing and handicrafts to music CDs and paintings. When hunger strikes, you’ll find a variety of restaurants serving delicious local and international dishes.

Kathmandu Durbar Square: Continue your tour at Kathmandu Durbar Square, located in the heart of the city. This historic square is surrounded by a fascinating array of temples, courtyards, and ancient royal palaces. Highlights include the Hanuman Dhoka Royal Palace, the magnificent Taleju Temple towering more than 40 meters; Kumari Ghar (the residence of the Living Goddess), Ashok Vinayak Temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh, and Kal Bhairav, the fearsome deity. Don’t miss the impressive Kasthamandap pagoda, which is said to have been constructed from a single tree and is the namesake of the city.

Patan Durbar Square: Conclude your sightseeing with a visit to Patan, situated 5 km southeast of Kathmandu. Known as the "City of Artisans," Patan Durbar Square is renowned for its exquisite Newari architecture. The square features ornate palaces, artistic courtyards, and elegant pagoda temples, showcasing the peak of Newari craftsmanship from the Malla kings' era. Admire the intricate wood and stone carvings, metal statues, and numerous Buddhist and Hindu temples spread across the square.

After breakfast, drive from Kathmandu to Chitwan, enjoying scenic views of the Nepalese countryside along the way. Upon arrival, check in at the resort and take some time to relax. Later, visit the Elephant Breeding Center, where you can learn about conservation efforts for endangered Asian elephants and see young calves. In the evening, enjoy a Tharu Cultural Dance Show, where the local Tharu community presents traditional dances and cultural performances. Dinner and overnight stay at the resort in Chitwan.

Begin your day early with an exciting jeep safari in Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich wildlife. As you explore the forests and grasslands, you may spot the rare one-horned rhinoceros, deer, wild elephants, and a variety of bird species. After the safari, return to the resort for breakfast and some time to relax. Later in the morning, enjoy a peaceful canoe ride on the Rapti River, where you can see crocodiles resting on the riverbanks and observe aquatic birds. In the afternoon, take a short nature walk around the park with a local guide to learn about the flora, fauna, and traditional use of forest plants. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at the resort in Chitwan.

The Golden Triangle of India is a very popular travel route that connects three famous cities: Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. It is called a “triangle” because these cities form a triangular shape on the map. Delhi is known for its history and modern life, Agra is famous for the Taj Mahal, and Jaipur is called the Pink City and is known for its forts and palaces. This route gives travelers a great introduction to India’s culture, history, food, and traditions, which is why it is especially popular with first-time visitors to India.

The best time to visit Chitwan National Park, is from October to April, when the weather is pleasant and wildlife sightings are better. During the monsoon from May to September the safari activities are limited or not available due to heavy rain.

Chitwan National Park is famous for its rich wildlife, natural jungle landscapes, and conservation success, and it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is best known for protecting the rare one-horned rhinoceros and is also home to Bengal tigers, wild elephants, crocodiles, and a wide variety of bird species. Its mix of dense forests, grasslands, and rivers makes it one of the best places in Nepal for wildlife safaris, birdwatching, and nature experiences. In addition to wildlife, Chitwan is also known for its cultural experiences, especially the traditions of the Tharu community, making it a unique destination that combines nature, wildlife, and local culture in one place.

Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is renowned for its rich biodiversity. The Park is home to the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, which is the major attraction for wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors might also encounter Royal Bengal Tigers, Asian elephants, sloth bears, and various species of deer, such as the sambar and chital. The park’s diverse ecosystem supports a variety of bird species, including the rare and elusive Bengal florican. Additionally, the park’s rivers and wetlands are inhabited by freshwater fish and reptiles, like the gharial crocodile. Chitwan’s varied habitats make it a prime destination for observing both iconic and lesser-known wildlife.

Exploring the vibrant streets and ancient temples of Kathmandu gave me a real sense of the country’s rich history and culture. Pokhara was a serene escape, with its peaceful lakes and breathtaking views of the Annapurna range. I could have spent hours just soaking in the beauty. Chitwan, however, was a highlight of its own. The wildlife safari was an adventure I’ll never forget, spotting rhinos and even a glimpse of a Bengal tiger in the lush jungle. Every day was a new discovery, filled with beautiful landscapes and warm, welcoming people. It’s hard to put into words how wonderful the experience was, it’s a journey that will stay with me forever. I highly recommend Alkof Holidays for anyone planning a trip to Nepal. Looking forward to my next adventure with them! – Tracy Read more
