Stay - Paro

Early in the morning, drive back to Paro. Upon arrival, check-in to your hotel, later hike to Taktsang Monastery or Tiger Nest. The temple is in the sacred rock, which was believed to have been blessed by Guru Rinpoche in the 8th century. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew to this site on a tigress’ back to subdue a local demon. Thereafter, he meditated here for three months. Visiting Tiger’s Nest temple will be rewarded with a breathtaking view and ones in a lifetime memory. It takes almost 2 hours to walk up at an average pace. Although the main building of the temple was destroyed by fire on April 1998, it rebuilt to former glory in 2001. The hike up to the viewpoint is worthwhile and fulfilling. In the afternoon, visit Ta Dzong, originally built as Watchtower, which now houses National Museum. Also visit Rinpung Dzong, Kichu Lhakhang, and Drugyel Dzong. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Paro is a valley town in Bhutan, and the place of the only international airport in the country. The region contains one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmark, Taktsang Monastery, the Tiger’s Nest. This awe-inspiring temple was constructed upon a sheer cliff face, above forests of oak and rhododendrons. Another site worth visiting in Paro is Drugyel Dzong or The Fortress of the Victorious Bhutanese. It was constructed by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 to commemorate his victory over marauding Tibetan armies. The fortress was destroyed by fire in 1951 but the ruins remain an impressive and imposing sight.
